If you’re reading this because you are interested in joining the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, then you are embarking on the same decision made by over 260,000 lifetime members and the same decision made in the last four years by 14,000 other college undergraduates from across the country.
Founded on November 1, 1901 at the University of Richmond, SigEp now has over 240 chapters, making it the largest national fraternity in the country. Why? Because SigEp is not your typical college fraternity. For 102 years, men across the country have joined for that reason.
What is so different about SigEp?
SigEp is changing the stereotype of the typical “frat.” Rather than focusing only on countless partying and other worthless endeavors, our fraternity is about making men better through the Balanced Man Program.
The Balanced Man Program replaces the traditional program, or “pledging,” used by most other fraternities. Men who join SigEp at the University of Tennessee at Martin are never pledges. They are men who are chosen because of their ideals and accomplishments. They are men who are considered a brother from day one - not a semester or a year later.
The Balanced Man Program gives men the opportunity to participate in countless service learning projects, attend academic speakers, host campus forums on topics such as Iraq, devote time to physical activities in search of a sound body, discuss topics in religion, participate in sessions on financial planning, and attend resume development seminars and countless leadership seminars.
Through these programs and the development experienced through academic support, campus leadership and social skills we fulfill our national mission of: “Building Balanced Leaders for the World’s Communities.”
Making a commitment to join Sigma Phi Epsilon is a lifelong commitment made by some famous men such as Rich Gannon (NFL MVP), James Nasmith (inventor of basketball), Orel Hershiser (Major League Baseball pitcher), John Goodman (actor), Dave Thomas (founder of Wendy’s), and author Theodor Geisel (”Dr. Seuss”).
So, how do I join?
Our recruitment isn’t your typical fraternity “rush,” even though every incoming member participates in IFC Recruitment. Looking for the Balanced Man takes more than just a week of fun, food and glitz. Likewise, we do not expect a man to find what he is looking for in a fraternity in just a few nights. If you think you are the right person for Sigma Phi Epsilon and you want to be a part of an organization that has shaped the lives of over 260,000 men, then we want to talk to you. Contact our Vice President of Recruitment, to arrange a personal interview.
Men make choices, but choices are what make men. SigEp is a choice that makes a difference.
