Brothers, friends and family gathered April 4th for TN Kappa’s 14th annual Family Day.
The day began with brothers and alumni participating in a 5k run, sponsored by Women in Communications to benefit St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital.
“I was glad I could participate. We’re taught sound body in the challenges and it’s always nice to put that philosophy to work for a good cause,” said Brother Michael Johnson, Vice-President of Programming.
Brothers then met family and welcomed back alumni at the chapter house during house tours.
The festivities then moved to the Interfaith Student Center for lunch.
Vice-President of Communications and host during lunch, Trey Delaney then introduced Brother Mike Baggett, class of ‘04, recent law school graduate and prosecutor in Illinois. Baggett spoke on how his experiences in SigEp helped him through law school and in his daily life.
“The cardinal principles are with me everyday. It goes without saying that diligence is necessary to get through law school,” said Baggett.
Baggett then recounted an accident he had soon after joining SigEp in which his leg was badly injured. Baggett said that the brotherly love displayed by the chapter in ensuring his care immediately following the accident likely saved him the use of his leg.
Chapter Counselor Ken Blankenship then announced the winners of TN Kappa’s various yearly awards. They are as follows:
Pat Clark, Nick Haberman, Michael Johnson, and Jordan White.
Finally, everyone met at the UTM intramural fields for the annual Alumni vs. Undergrad Softball game. Unfortunately, Campus Recreation official called them game off early due to the wet condition of the field, but the undergrads were ahead 9 to 6 … the score will have to be settled next year!
