Through two days of competition, four tense matches, and the always prevalent “Curse”, Sigma Phi Epsilon won the 2004 UTM Trivia Bowl Championship on November 16.
Games began on Monday with SigEp defeating Alpha Tau Omega and Alpha Delta Pi in the first round. Tuesday night SigEp again showed its muscle by rocketing past “T-Mac” and “Death from Above.”
On the final day of play, Tennessee Kappa found itself in the Championship match, defeating “Sgt. Pepper’s Trivia Team,” the defending runners-up from last year, 370-220.
Trivia Bowl is an annual event co-sponsored by the UTM History Club and University Scholars Organization. The format of the games is that of Jeopardy!®, with categories including history, science, current events, arts and entertainment, literature, and sports.
The Tennessee Kappa chapter, while competing strongly and being perennial favorites for runner-up, had never won the event in its twelve-year history on campus. The brothers had referred to this as “The Curse.”
Team members for SigEp included: Brothers Mike Baggett, Tony Beal, Tucker Leigh (named MVP), Matt Muehlberger, and Zach Waddell.
In other matches, Brothers and ROTC members Joe Dacus and Ethan Shircel helped propel the team “Death from Above” to the semi-finals this year.
