Brothers Izzy O’Bryan, Bob Ridely, and Ethan Shircel competed with members of the Skyhawk Batallion of the Army ROTC in a Ranger Challenge event November 5-7. The event took place at Fort Jackson in South Carolina with the days including the following: land navigation courses, an Army physical fitness test, a hand grenade assault course, a 50 meter swim, written examinations, weapons assembly/disassembly, and a 10 kilometer (6.4 mile) run with 35 pound rucksacks and gear.
The Skyhawk Batallion finished in first place in the 10 km run, completing the challenge in a little over an hour. This time was only four minutes short of the event record. “It was a challenge and quite difficult,” said Ridely, “though I am quite upset as we could have done it faster.”
It is also noteworthy to mention that Brother Shircel earned a perfect score in the physical fitness test. The Battalion all together finished second overall in the Ranger Challenge. Tennessee Kappa congratulations Brothers O’Bryan, Ridely, and Shircel on a job well done.
